Father’s Day in Las Vegas

Just as with Mother’s Day in Las Vegas, Father’s Day comes and goes without a whole lot of pomp and circumstance in Sin City, though there are plenty of opportunities to spoil Dad if that’s what you’d like to do.

Because Father’s Day falls during the summer, you can expect the city to be busy. Despite the heat that has likely set in by this time, Las Vegas is very busy during the summer months with pool parties, poolside concerts and celebrity-packed nightclubs. Look for cheap flights to Las Vegas as early as possible, and book a hotel room once you know you’d like to visit.

As with any holiday in Las Vegas, the day should certainly start out with food. There are several buffets to dine at, and chances are that everyone in your party will find something he or she enjoys. Brunch on Father’s Day is particularly popular, though, so join the line early, expect to wait for a fairly significant amount of time and get a player’s card before getting in line to take advantage of any savings offered at the casino buffets.

Throughout the day, there are countless things to keep Dad busy. Do you have an adventure Dad? Consider hitting up the Adventuredome at Circus Circus or the roller coaster at New York New York. For those who want to learn a little something during their trip, check out one of the exhibits or galleries on Las Vegas Boulevard, such as the Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art or BODIES … The Exhibit. If you have a rental car, consider getting off the Strip to reach the Atomic Testing Museum or the Pinball Hall of Fame. For those who have gamblers on their hands, check out one of the many race and sports books in town and spend the day watching just about any sport of interest on the big screen.

Despite its desert location, Las Vegas has an astounding number of golf courses. This popular pastime requires people to book tee times early, and it’s ideal if you can squeeze something in for the early morning or at dusk.

If Dad is into the great outdoors, Las Vegas is an ideal place to visit, but again, be mindful of the heat. There are plenty of things you can do outdoors near Las Vegas, including cycling and hiking, as long as you come prepared with plenty of water. Day trips to the Hoover Dam or down to Lake Mead to rent a boat and spend a day on the water can be nice reprieves from the city as well.

For dinner, you have an assortment of restaurants to pick from. For those who have manly men for dads, there are several steakhouses, pizza joints and burger bars available. But if you’d like to try something else, Las Vegas dining options range from ethnic cuisine and casual takeout to fine dining with stellar views across the city.

After hours, consider checking out a show (Dad might like a comedy such as Penn & Teller or something a bit quirky like Blue Man Group). Then stop by a bar or lounge for some live music and a beer or quick cocktail before checking in for the night on Father’s Day in Las Vegas.
