Casino Lingo: Color Up
At the casino, you will notice that the chips you play with are different colors. Here’s how much each of those chips is worth:
White/Blue: $1
Red: $5
Green: $25
Black: $100
Purple: $500
Orange: $1,000
The term “color up” means that you want to exchange a bunch of smaller denominations for a few larger ones. You say to the dealer, “I’d like to color up,” when you have too many of a smaller denomination, or when you’re ready to leave the table. The dealer will most likely insist that you do this before you leave even if you don’t have a lot of money. If you don’t ask them, they will say to you, “Color?”
