Craps Lingo: “Place Bet”
In a craps game, the “place bet” is a bet you can make at any time on the box numbers without waiting for it to be rolled first. You can ask the dealer to “place” the 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10. The 4 and 10 pay 9 to 5, the 6 and 8 pay 7 to 6, and the 5 and 9 pay 7 to 5. A place bet will pay out every time the number is hit before the seven comes up. After winning a place bet, you might hear the better ask the dealer to “press it.” That means that they are taking their winnings and adding it to their current place bet.
