Vegas Attraction News: Star Trek, King Tut
Star Trek To Close at Las Vegas Hilton
This news hit close to heart – one of my favorite Las Vegas attractions has been marked for closure.
“Star Trek: The Experience” is set to go dark on September 1st, 2008
After eleven years at the Las Vegas Hilton, the “Star Trek” museum, along with both of the simulator rides (“Klingon Encounter” and “Borg Invasion 4-D”) are going to be shut down.
Quark’s Restaurant and it’s adjoining retail areas will also be closed. A cute message on the site claims the space will be closed by the Ferengi Commerce Authority Liquidator. I personally blame the Borg…nobody likes to be stared at while eating by a member of the Borg.
For those attending the upcoming annual “Star Trek” convention, this will be your last chance to enjoy the Trek-environment in Vegas. And everyone’s last chance to enjoy a Warp Core Breach at the bar.
About the impending closing, Paramount Parks Director of Marketing Chad Boutte issued a prepared statement: “We’d like to thank all the fans and friends of Star Trek, whose constant and amazing support we’ve enjoyed throughout our tenure at the Las Vegas Hilton … We share the memories of time spent in the most unique place in the Galaxy, and we carry those memories into our futures with us.”
For the last eight weeks of its operations, “Star Trek: The Experience” will be open at noon. Purchase tickets online for $44.99. Quark’s and the retail shops open at 11am.
No word on what the LV Hilton will open in the space, but my guess is another restaurant downstairs with plenty of retail in the remaining areas.

King Tut and IMAX Now Closed at Luxor
While we’re talking about closings, the Luxor has officially turned the lights out on both the IMAX theater and the King Tut exhibit and museum.
As reported earlier, both have been closed to make way for the “Bodies … The Exhibition” and “Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition,” both of which have been playing across the street at the Tropicana. No word on when they will make the switch, though rumors are “Bodies…” will be in its new home by the first week of August.
