DJ Grandmaster Flash to Spin at Pure and Tangerine
DJ Grandmaster Flash is considered by many to be one of the forefathers of not only hip hop, but of the use of turntables as a musical instrument. Raised in the Bronx, he first started spinning in the 70s and laid the foundations for many of today’s DJ techniques like scratching and backspinning. He also formed what is considered one of the first rap groups, The Furious Five, and hit the charts in the early 80s with the single “White Lines (Don’t Do It).”
This week there are two chances to catch this legendary turntable master in action. April 11 finds him spinning at Pure, alongside resident DJ AM. The next night, he hops over to Tangerine to rock the dancefloor for the club’s weekly Moonshine event.
