Asia Opens at Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood
Those looking for something new to check out this weekend will want to head over to the Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood for the grand opening of Asia.
As the name suggests, Asia specializes in Asian cuisine during the daytime. Chef Steven Geddes says he has put together a menu that fuses various traditional Asian ingredients and recipes with modern twists. Some of the more interesting offerings I spied include stuffed squid, grilled lamb loin with lotus chips and preserved duck (I’m not sure how you preserve a duck for eating, though).
Being a master sommelier as well as chef, Geddes says he has designed his libation menu to compliment the food, with a wide wine, beer and sake selection.
At night, the restaurants shifts over to a nightclub vibe, complete with a DJ, dancefloor and VIP areas. There is also a stage for live performances. Though the venue is expansive, Asia is aiming for more of a lounge feel than cavernous dance club.
The decor at Asia uses French-Vietnamese colonial designs mixed with silks and rich hardwoods that makes the two-story venue exotic and intimate, even though it can seat up to 1,000. And that seating varies from traditional tables to bolstered booths to silk-covered padded stools in the bar area. Also noteworthy is the way they have stained and etched various Asian-inspired designs into the support poles of the venue, turning them into works of art.
This weekend, as I mentioned, is Asia’s grand opening, and it kicks off tonight at 7pm with the three-hour monthly installment of Rock’n’Roll Wine. Chris Clouse and DJ Zhaldee provide the tunes and cover is $38 at the door. At midnight, LA’s DJ Pesce hits the decks for a two hour set.
Tomorrow (July 14th), the party starts at10pm with music provided by DJ Adam 12 of She Wants Revenge.
