Dining Out at Planet Hollywood

Vegas is a gourmet’s delight and Planet Hollywood certainly isn’t backing off that challenge.

In plans unveiled by Planet Hollywood co-chairman Robert Earls last week, culinary offerings at the resort will offer everything from an upscale steakhouse to a 24-hour coffee shop.

On the deluxe side of the scale, guests of the resort can choose from the Strip House, one of New York’s most acclaimed steakhouses, which opens this summer (prices $20-$40); Italian classics from Alfredo of Rome (prices $20-$40); and KOI, a hotspot celebrity hang-out imported from Los Angeles (prices $18-$48).

Casual diners can enjoy Mexican fare from Yolos (prices $15-$25), and gourmet sandwiches and salads from Earl of Sandwich (prices $10 or less), which already has an outpost at Walt Disney World. I’ve eaten at that Earl of Sandwich and the food is fresh and delicious. Asian chain P.F. Chang’s (prices $10-$15) will also have an eatery at the resort.

Fans of the Aladdin’s award-winning Spice Market Buffet will be happy to hear that Planet Hollywood will be keeping it open. And as far as I can tell, they have no plans to change the food offerings that led it to be voted “#1 Buffet” in 2007.

Those looking for a quick bite can visit the now open Planet Dailies upscale coffee shop (prices $6-$30), with over 150 menu items ranging from breakfast fare like filet mignon Benedict to hearty Kobe beef sliders. Even better, the cafe is open 24 hours daily. This summer, look for the opening of Pink’s in the Race & Sports Book area, which will serve authentic hot dogs from Hollywood’s famed Pink’s Hot Dog stand (prices $6-$40).
