Grilled Cheese Eating Record Set In Vegas
While last weekend the city played host to the ArenaBowl XX, a different sort of competition was being held with food. Sponsored by Golden Palace and the International Federation of Competitive Eating (IFOCE), eaters from across the country tried to set the record for eating grilled cheese sandwiches.
Before the main competition, GP offered $100,000 to any amateur who could beat the current record of 36 in ten minutes. The closest anyone got was Nevada local Mike Justice, who managed nine.
But when it came time for the IFOCE pros to take the stage, it was literally a feeding frenzy and by the time the crumbs had settled Joey Chestnut took first place and the world record with 47 grilled cheese sandwiches downed. For the records, ranked third by the IFOCE, Chestnut also holds the world eating records for asparagus (6.25 pounds in 10 minutes), pork ribs (5.5 pounds in 12 minutes) and waffles (18.5 in 10 minutes).
I think if I ate 47 grilled cheeses in ten minutes, I’d never be able to eat them again…how about you?
