Luxor Hotel and Casino Las Vegas
It doesn’t matter where in Las Vegas you are, you can always see the bright light shining from the top of the Luxor. Tucked between the luxurious Mandalay Bay and the fairy tale-like Excalibur, the Luxor is known best for its unique architecture: All of the rooms are contained in a pyramid style tower and two twin ziggurat towers.
Named after the city of Luxor in Egypt, this resort is contained in a cozier area but fringed with high-energy nightlife and an impressive array of over-18 entertainment.
A Little History
Luxor opened on October 15, 1993. At that time, the pyramid was the tallest building on the Strip. The theater and the two towers were added in 1998.

Hotels/Resorts Located Nearby: Luxor Hotel and Casino is located between Mandalay Bay and Excalibur. The closest resort across the street is Tropicana. Luxor is connected to its sister properties, Excalibur and Mandalay Bay, by the free Mandalay Bay Tram.
Rooms and Suites
There are 4,407 rooms at Luxor Las Vegas. Out of those, 2,000 are located in the two towers. Rooms located in the pyramid open above the atrium (or top) level, which is unlike most other rooms in other resorts on the Strip, which simply open to closed-in hallways.
General Prices
Luxor Hotel and Casino is one of the places on the Strip suitable for any budget. Room rates start at as little as $45 during the week in the low season and climb to more than $200 when demand is high. Even during the city’s biggest holidays, like Memorial Day and New Year’s Eve, you can find rooms ranging from $95 to $250 per night. Though rooms are comfortable and spacious, this isn’t the place on the Strip to stay if you come just for the good views.
The resort also offers a number of promotional and discount packages.
The Casino
The casino features a total gaming area of 120,000 square feet, all contained within the inner area of the pyramid. Guests can play on more than 1,500 slot machines, which feature both classic games and progressive slots ranging in denominations from $0.01 to $100. Table games include craps, roulette, blackjack, baccarat and poker. There are daily poker tournaments for guests. A race and sports betting area is also available.
Craps, blackjack and roulette lessons are offered daily for free. Also, free poker lessons are held in the poker room Monday through Friday.
Restaurants
There are a variety of dining options in Luxor, though this resort isn’t necessarily known for its cuisine. Options include a 24-hour cafe, a fine dining steakhouse, a Mexican restaurant, Asian fusion options and a small food court. The spacious buffet is located downstairs and away from the casino.

Nightlife
People who like to stay up all night will find no shortage of things to keep them busy after hours at Luxor Las Vegas. Home to some of the most popular and exciting nightclubs on the Strip, including LAX and Cathouse, and several posh bars and lounges, this resort makes it hard to call it a night.

Entertainment
Luxor Las Vegas is the permanent home to several impressive shows. Criss Angel Believe is a Cirque du Soleil not for the faint of heart, Fantasy has been billed the hottest adult revue on the Strip, Menopause the Musical is a hilarious stage performance and Carrot Top has a show for those 18 and older.
In general, this isn’t the resort to seek out for family entertainment, though those in town on an adults-only getaway will find plenty of shows from which to choose.

Features
There are two exhibitions on site at Luxor worth checking out. Bodies … The Exhibition offers an up-close-and-personal look at the human body while Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition provides visitors with a walk through the ill-fated ship before it sunk. Although there isn’t extensive shopping available at Luxor, the resort is connected to Mandalay Place, which has an assortment of specialty shops and restaurants. The resort’s pool is open to guests for free and non-guests for a fee. There is also a spa, which is located near the pool.

Ideal Visitors
Because Luxor is affordable, it is a great option for anyone traveling to Las Vegas on a budget. However, to fully appreciate what the resort has to offer, this resort is best suited for adults. The after hours entertainment—which includes twisted comedy, dark magic and an adult revue—as well as the numerous nightclubs and lounges in Luxor make it a great destination for those in town for bachelor and bachelorette parties and those looking for plentiful nightlife.
Travel Tips
- Take advantage of the free tram, which runs from Mandalay Bay to Excalibur with a stop at Luxor.
- There are timeshare booths set up throughout Luxor. You will likely be approached and asked if you’d like free show tickets for a couple hours of your time. Feel free to participate in the timeshare presentation (and, in fact, it is a great way to see shows for free), but do be aware of what these people are asking of you.
- Pick up This Week at Luxor, a free brochure located throughout the resort, for specials, promotions and show hours for the week.
- If you’d prefer to skip the casino floor, take the stairs to the atrium, which crosses from the front of the resort to the entrance of Mandalay Place.
