Steve Wynn
Long before founding the jewel of a Hotel that now bears his name on the corner of Twain, and the Strip, Steve Wynn has been in the upscale casino business. Wynn came to Las Vegas in 1967, and by 1973 was running a The Golden Nugget. The Nugget had been in neglect, and Wynn had a vision – to make the Golden Nugget not only the nicest hotel in downtown Vegas, but in Las Vegas period.
Wynn is the visionary who molded the modern Las Vegas with the opening the Mirage in 1989. Part casino, part resort, and part shopping mall, The Mirage redefined what the Las Vegas casino could be. At a time when growth was flat in Las Vegas, the Mirage opened, and started a wave of development in Las Vegas that continues unabated to this day.
