Desert Passage Shops To Be Renamed Miracle Mile Shops
When it was announced that The Aladdin would be transitioning into a Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino, many wondered what would happen to the Morroccan theming of the hotel’s adjacent shopping mall, The Desert Passage Shops.
Well, say hello to the Miracle Mile Shops.
The projected $50 million makeover of the 1.5 miles of retail and restaurant space the mall covers will focus on removing the Morroccan facades lining the walkways and exchanging it for a more modernized atmosphere. This will be accomplished by the addition of new flooring, brighter interior lighting, and state-of-the-art LED vedio offering mood imagery throughout the mall. On the outside, look for the addition of people movers (those flat moving surfaces similar to what they have at other resorts on the Strip) and floor-to-ceiling glass entrances.
The mall is also looking to attract new and internationally-known retailers to join the stores already in place. Among those that have already acquired space, with projected openings through 2007, are Urban Outfitters, Trader Vic’s restaurant, Ben Sherman (British menswear), Quiksilver and Marciano.
The exterior renovations are expected to be completed by the end of this year. The interiors will take a bit longer, with a projected end near the summer of 2007.
